Allergies!

Tuesday was not the best day that I've ever had! Wrigley has turned into the pickiest eater EVER! He could be eating a cracker, and then you go to give him another one and he'll completely freak out...and it's like that ALL THE TIME! So I never know what to give him to eat, cause half the time he won't even eat what we're eating!

So Tuesday morning my sister Brooke was eating eggs and Wrigley kept doing the sign for food in her face so she gave him some, and he really liked it. So I thought great at least I know that he likes eggs. Well that night I was fighting with him over what he will or will not eat for dinner, before I had to leave for Young Women's. So I decided that I'd make him some eggs (since he had really enjoyed them earlier in the day). Well he had eaten about half when he started rubbing his eye and it started turning really red, then he got little splotches on his face. So I stopped giving it to him, thinking that he was having an allergic reaction. And then I had to go to Young Women's so I left him with Brooke and Jordan.

Well at about 8:30 my Mom comes running into the church gym and said "Wrigley's not doing good at all. You need to come right home. We've been trying to get a hold of you for a while now. He's completely broken out in hives!" Well anyone who knows me knows that I tend to freak out pretty easily, and I am a pro at worrying about anything and everything. So I quickly tell the YW Pres that I've got to go take care of the little one. As soon as I left I started to cry and loose it. But I called his doctors office and had the doctor call me right back. When I got home Wrigs whole face and neck was bright red and covered with hives, he was acting totally fine but I was still freaking out! The Doctor called me back and said that I needed to give him children's Benadryl, and that if he starts to have a problem breathing to go to the ER, so I had my Mom go and get some. But when she came back she said that the pharmacist said that I should "absolutely not" give it to him, because the side effects for children under 6 could be death. WHAT DEATH! HOLY CRAP! So I of course didn't give it to him now more freaked out than I was before!

When Steve got home, he and Jordan gave Wrigley a blessing, and that made me feel better but I was still really nervous about him sleeping, so we left his bedroom door open so I could go in and make sure that he was still breathing! (yup paranoid. I'm aware!)

Well he was fine until about 1 o'clock when he woke up screaming, so I ran in there and his eyes were swollen shut! I freaked out and woke up Steve and he took Wrigley while I called the doctor. He said that Benadryl is fine that I should have given it to him earlier, but that I should give him a little less than 1 tsp. every 6 hours. So that's what we did. But I was so freaked out that I really couldn't sleep the rest of the night. When I got back from work at 9 Wednesday morning he looked tons better but he was still pretty puffy.

It was a pretty scary event for me, especially since I had just had my first allergic reaction to Penicillin a few weeks ago, so I knew what he was going through. He was so great though, just being his happy self, and even giving me hugs to try and help me feel better. He was so sweet!

Both of my little boys have food allergies. It can be quite scary. Keep benedryl in your diaper bag at all times. If it keeps up you may want to see an allergist for him. Allergies are one reason why kids are picky eaters. You are a great mom. Be sure to only add one new food each week so you can keep track if anymore things pop up.
